  • What is Sisterlocks?
Sisterlocks ® is the locking of natural hair that allows your natural hair texture to take advantage of a wide range of today’s hairstyles without having to chemically alter your hair or add any products or heat. Sisterlocks® is relatively tiny and uniformed and utilizes a trademarked locking technique founded in 1993 by Dr. JoAnne Cornwell

  • Is it necessary to have a consultation?
Consultation is the first and most important step. During the consultation, you will be given information on Sisterlocks ® and the Consultant will ask questions about your hair history, diet, styling preference among other things that will help you to assess your readiness for Sisterlocks ®. You will also leave with 8-12 test locks which will help your Consultant to determine the right size and pattern for your hair.
  • How soon after consultation can I be established?
You can have your Sisterlocks ® established 14- 21 days after consultation. You are required to shampoo at least twice, seven days apart.
  • How often should I retighten my hair?
It is recommended that you retighten your Sisterlocks ® every 4-6 weeks. The specific time will be determined by your Consultant based on factors such as maturity of your locks as well as how fast your hair grows. Your first retightening must be done 4 weeks after establishment.
  • Can I retighten my own hair?
After your Sisterlocks ® have matured, there is the option to take a retightening class offered by a “R” Certified Consultant. See sisterlocks.com for more details.
  • Will I be able to style and color my Sisterlocks ®?
The size and the precision grid contribute to the versatility of sisterlocks. You can cut it, color it, wear an updo... In essence, whatever can be done to loose hair can be done to sisterlocks®. Your Consultant will advise you when it is safe to color your hair.
  • Will Sisterlocks ® cause my hair to break or thin?
Sisterlocks ® will NOT cause your hair to break or thin. Just the opposite! Sisterlocks (TM) is a gentle technique that requires no chemicals, no excessive tightening, and causes no damaging abrasion to the hair or scalp. You will find that with regular maintenance, your locks will grow.
  • Where can I purchase Sisterlocks ® products?
Sisterlocks ® Products are highly recommended and can either be purchased from your Consultant of from sisterlocks.com.
  • Can I get Sisterlocks ® if my hair is permed?
